If you have been using EndNote Web to format your documents and you have decided to change over to the full desktop version of EndNote, the procedure is quite simple. Transferring your References from EndNote Web to EndNoteNote: When we use the term "EndNote" we are referring to the full desktop version of the software. When we use the term "EndNote Web", we are referring to the web-based version. If you have more than one folder of references in EndNote Web, you will find it easier if you first move all the references into a single folder. This is not essential, but it speeds up the process, because you have to transfer references from one folder at a time. Obtain the EndNote software and install it on your computer. In EndNote, create the library where you wish to store the references which are currently in your EndNote Web account. We strongly recommend that you keep all your references in a single library in EndNote. In EndNote, click on Tools>EndNote Web. (In version X of EndNote, click on Tools>Transfer References.) This will open a dialogue box where you must enter the login details for your EndNote Web account. EndNote will connect to EndNote Web. You must confirm the details of the library on the desktop where you wish to store the references, and also the folder on the web from which you wish to transfer the references. Make sure that you specify Transfer References from Web to Desktop. If you have more than one folder of references in EndNote Web, you must repeat this procedure for each folder. Working with your Word DocumentsWhen you open a Word document that you had been using with EndNote Web, you have to change the preferences so that you can now format it with EndNote. To do this, click on the Preferences button on the EndNote Web tools in Word. Then click on the Applications tab and select the EndNote application. The EndNote Web tools will disappear from Word, and you will see the EndNote tools instead. Continue to work with your document, using the EndNote tools and the library of references which you transferred from EndNote Web. You can of course add further references to that library. EndNote will continue to format your document in the output style which you were using with EndNote Web, providing that this output style is also available in EndNote. Note: We recommend that you make no further use of your EndNote Web account. It is certainly possible to use both products, by switching the Application when you wish to do so, but we do not advise this. If you are using both products, your references may get out of synch. There is no automatic synchronisation between the two products, although you can certainly transfer references between them (as explained above). | |||||
