A successful search can result in a single record display screen or in a results list screen.
The search results page is divided into 3 zones:

- Zone 1 - Search options
| 1.1 | Keyword search box to initiate a new search. |
| 1.2 | Click on the help button to get help searching the classic catalogue. |
| 1.3 | Buttons to do a new search, see an extended display (to see a title if you have not done a title search) or limit and or sort your results. If you have clicked on the Extended Display button, a new button fcalled Brief will appear. Click on this to return to the brief display. |
| 1.4 | Click on the down arrow to see a list of your previous searches. Click on any of the searches to return to them. |
| 1.5 | Shows your original search in three (sometimes two, depending on the type of search done) boxes. In the above example the search was a Title search using the word "sports" done in the Entire collection. These boxes also give you the opportunity to do another type of search (Author/Title/Subject/Number/Course) and/or change the collection to search. Do this by clicking on the grey down arrow at the right of each box and selecting another search type or collection. |
| 1.6 | Sort the results on the current page. The default is "System Sorted". This means that currently your results have been sorted by the system (usually alphabetically). If you wish to sort your results by earliest year or latest year first, click on the down arrow and select another option. Then click the Search button. The display will show all the journals first without any dates, and follow these by the earliest or latest dates as chosen. |
| 1.7 | Click this checkbox if you want to limit the display only to items that are available for loan. |
| 1.8 | Click on any number to jump to that page of the list. |
| 1.9 | To save any of the records for later use, first click the checkbox in Zone 2 next to the title, and then click on any of these buttons. If you clicked on either of the first two buttons, two extra green buttons will appear at the top of the screen - View/Export Saved Records and Clear Saved Records. Click on these to review your saved records and clear them when you are finished. If you clicked on Save to My Lists, you will be asked to logon to your library record and then follow the prompts. |
- Zone 2 - Search results
| 2.1 | Total number of entries found. |
| 2.2 | Total number of records in the search. |
| 2.3 | If you wish to select any entry for later use, click once in the checkbox in the Mark column. |
| 2.4 | A separate entry for each different occurrence of the title will display here. If more than one entry appears for the same title, they will all be presented on the one line, and the number of entries found shown in the last column on the rights (2.6). Clicking on a title for which more than one entry was found, will display another results list showing the individual entries. Clicking on any of those titles will bring up the full record. |
| 2.5 | Year of publication for any format other than journals. |
- Zone 3 - Search options
| 3.1 | The search options that appear in Zone 1 are repeated here. |
| 3.2 | An extra option is the ability to jump directly to the row number of a specific record |
