Requesting Books, etc. Held by UQ Library

You can request (i.e. place a hold) on books, videos, etc. currently on loan, or on the shelves on another campus.

1. Search the catalogue

2. Select a catalogue record for a book, video, etc.

3. Click on the Place a Hold button at the top

4. Exceptions:

(a) Status is "Available" and item is located on your home campus - you are expected to retrieve it yourself.

(b) Status is "Request doc" - see the separate procedure for In Storage.

(c) Placing a hold on one volume of a multivolume set - ask at the Loans Desk in your branch library.

(d) Do not place a hold on more than one copy of the same title. Additional holds will be cancelled once the first hold is filled.

5. You may be asked to login.

6. Select a Pickup location. Note: For items on loan on your campus, you must pickup the item at the branch library that has the item.

7. Click on A list of all the items the Library has of this title will appear.

8. If a copy is available for requesting, the message in the STATUS column will be either:

  • AVAILABLE; or
  • Due Date (if on loan)

9. Select the copy by clicking its radio button

10. Click on at the bottom of the list. The following notice will appear:

Your hold [title of item] has been registered
 SS&HPN3499.)62V.4.5AVAILABLE 
 The item will be delivered to [pickup location] when it is available 

11. You will be notified by email when the item is ready to be picked up.

12. Click on Return to record to get back to the catalogue record.

Requesting books from "In Storage" location

This service is available to UQ staff and students only.

1. From the catalogue record, go to Quick links

2. Click on Request It

3. Fill in the form

4. Enter your UQ username and password

5. Click on Submit this request
