Grey literature is information produced by all levels of government, academia, business and industry in electronic and print formats not controlled by commercial publishing. Much of this data is potentially useful for research, but identifying it and tracking it down can be tricky.

The Grey Literature Network Service was founded in 1992 to solve this problem. It provides an online search service for grey literature. It includes input from large national library bodies.
