Our Librarian in Shanghai

Jill Dombrow (pictured below), one of our Tweed Gold Coast Campus librarians, recently visited Shanghai as part of the SCU teaching team for the offshore Bachelor of Business Administration course. SCU delivers this course in partnership with the Shanghai International Exchange Institute.

Jill was the tutor for Learning and Communication, a core unit of the program, presenting twelve 1.5 hour lectures to a total of 720 students. Her contributions included an introduction to the SCU web site (Library, Learning Assistance resources, MySCU); utilising the Blackboard site for the unit; accessing Library resources (databases, electronic books, virtual reference); search techniques and critical evaluation of sources; and Word tools required for assignments.

The visit to China has been a great personal and professional experience for Jill. It’s a measure of the professional esteem in which she is held to be invited to participate, and a good example of how librarians and academic staff can work together to integrate information literacy into subject curricula.

It is important for the Library to be directly involved in delivering one of the University’s offshore programs, and this will help us to understand how we might build on Jill’s experience in providing support for such programs in the future.
