Effective Teaching and Learning Conference

One of the most interesting of the sessions I attended at the Effective Teaching and Learning Conference was the keynote address by Ms Waymamba Gaykamangu and John Greatorex entitled Sharing minds-Yolngu Studies at Charles Darwin University. It was quite different in that the speakers introduced themselves by showing pictures of their kinship families. The Yolngu Studies program is the only one available nationally or internationally where Aboriginal teachers teach their own languages and culture at vocational, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels under the supervision of their own community elders. The program has won the Prime Minister’s Award University Teacher of the Year for its Aboriginal language project. Check out the extensive resources available
