The University of Cambridge Library has developed some well-organised pages called Support for Managing Research Data.
The information is organised into four sections:
- Creating data
- Organising data
- Acessing data
- Looking after data
Each section has a sub-section with more information, and sub-sections break up into useful FAQs. One of the excellent pages is the list of suitable file formats for archiving, which lists the pros and cons of popular formats such as text, JPEG, and PDF. There is also information on audio and video formats.
The site also provides tips on managing email and other types of research records, and has advice on email security.
Another UK university that is providing clear advice is Leeds. Their pages for researchers cover everything from information literacy to data management.
