cjo.jpg Cambridge University Press has just announced a rental program for articles to cater for people who want to view an article but not pay the more costly pay-per-view download fee. The rental price is still fairly steep - $6 for 24-hour access to a single article you can neither save nor print. (Some whole e-books are cheaper.)

Cambridge publishes more than 280 peer-reviewed journals, and this rental program is probably aimed at Cambridge's mobile market where people want instant access while they are on the move.

The Chronicle of Higher Education has a story about the rental program. Of possibly greater interest are the comments at the end where people debate the issues, including cost and the workarounds.
