Music Trivia to Start

Blogs > Ipswich Library Blog

Hi All,
As I was enjoying the Australia Day holiday last week, which was also my birthday, I sat in air-conditioned comfort eating potato chips, sipping a sarsaparilla slurpy while watching my wife play cricket with my sons in 40 degree heat and 95% humidity in the back yard. I thought "It doesn't get any better than this". But does it? I thought I'd do some research into how, historically, others had passed Australia day. I found that in 1500 Vicente Yáñez Pinzón discovered Brazil, apparently while he was looking for a servo where he could get gas for his BarBQ. Back in 1736 Stanislaus the 1st formally abdicated as King of Poland after getting tickets to the Australia day test. In 1979 Australia Day was energized by the very first episode of "The Dukes of Hazzard".

I guess this evidence suggests that, no it doesn't get any better than my Australia Day this year. One thing that would have made it better is if I had won a guitar, which is exactly what all UQ students have the opportunity to do as of next week! Music trivia will be commencing next week in the library and the major prize is an electric guitar, amp and tuner. To win the guitar all you need to do is attend one session each week for three weeks and your name could be drawn out of the hat. There will be CDs as prizes for the people who get the highest scores, not to mention great prestige. Sessions will be held in library eZone 3 Monday at Midday, Tuesday at 10, Wednesday at 1:00, Thursday at 1:00 and Friday at 2:00. See you there.
