Week 1 Sem 1 2011
Welcome back to Ipswich campus for 2011! There have been a few changes on campus: a few less trees in the car park, the refectory has a new look and feel and the new lecture hall is beginning to take shape next to building 12. Our first cohort of UQ College Students and our MBBS students have already been on campus for several weeks so everything seems to be travelling smoothly. Our first Student Music Trivia has been run over the last four weeks and was won by 2nd year Med. student Andy Hewett. Andy who, after a tie with fellow med student Darcy Hinde, had to win a best of five rock paper scissors play off, in the finest academic tradition, to claim his championship. The major prize, the headless X-5 guitar, was won by first year med student Ryan Devlin. Congratulations to Andy and Ryan and thanks to all who played along. Many thanks also to the PVC’s office for providing the prizes. Hopefully we have already had our lifetime’s quota of natural disasters and catastrophes in the first 60 odd days of 2011 and Mother Nature has no more unpleasant surprises in store for us. However out of the suffering and despair of the past couple of months have come so many displays of selflessness and so much generosity that we can be very proud of our species.
