Hi All, Did you know that on this day in 1830 HD Hyde patented the fountain pen? In 1939 Edward Bulwer-Lytton announced that “the pen is mightier than the sword”. In 1840 many of the world’s most proactive fencing teams were baying for Bulwer-Lytton’s blood after their teams, newly armed with fountain pens, were summarily vanquished by teams equipped with the more traditional Foil, Epee and Sabre. A summon search for Bulwer-Lytton from the library homepage finds 1,035 hits, alas none of them mention his stoush with the fencers. A gap in the collection perhaps? Marcos
