O-Week 2009
Hi All, Welcome to O-Week!!!! Did you know that this week we celebrate the 137th anniversary of the invention of the toothpick making machine? This invention was born of necessity because naturally occurring toothpicks had been hunted to extinction a decade earlier. The inventors, Noble and Cooley, later got to work on a heath hen and passenger pigeon making machine but were not as successful. We also celebrate the 79th anniversary of the first bovine flight. My sources tell me that Elle Farm Ollie was over the moon when she found out she had been selected for the flight from Bismarck to St Louis. It will be hard for us to top these events but, during O-Week we will be running a Wii competition in the library as well as trivia competitions. I imagine that, in 137 years time, someone will be writing in their blog that it is the 137th anniversary of wii competitions being part of University orientation weeks (they will of course be standard practice by then). We have had the unprecedented event of a tie in the music trivia contest which has been running for the past 3 weeks. Our two tie-ees will have a 10 question shootout on Thursday for the Woodstock Stratocaster. I’ll keep you posted. Marcos
