2009 Semester 1 post 1

Hi All, Welcome to 2009! I’m sorry to start the year with a scandal, but I feel I must prepare you. All of the fuss surrounding the LZR swimsuit at last year’s Olympics may well be repeated, this time in athletics. Medical people when discussing proper posture and lifting techniques point to toddlers as the example. Some sport physiologists have taken this line of thinking to the next level. Toddlers often run with both arms behind them at an angle of a little less than 45 degrees. This stance is not unlike that taken up by a sprinter lunging for the finish line. Logically if this action gives an advantage at the very end when a quick burst is required, why not use this stance the whole way? Sports clothing manufacturers are jostling for the rights to develop the suit which will support both arms at the optimal angle toward the rear. The suit is in testing at the moment, with coming off the blocks still causing problems, mouthguards are essential at this point. The IOC are keeping very quiet about this suit at the moment. This suit, along with the video game “piano accordion hero”, is certainly set to boost the ranks of the world’s billionaires. I will keep you posted. Music trivia will be kicking off next Thursday at midday in library eZone 1 and will be run over 3 weeks with the winner receiving a new Stratocaster guitar. All students are welcome.
