Week 12 Semester 2

Blogs > Ipswich Library Blog

Hi All, This week we celebrate the birthday of Evel Knievel, which made me think about risk taking behaviour. Despite all of his risk taking, Knievel almost made it into his eighth decade, albeit in chronic, extreme pain. As we all know scientists have discovered a “risk taking” gene. The existence of this gene presents an interesting civil rights question, particularly for those who enjoyed the X-Men films. Should people carrying this gene be identified? Sure it may be a disadvantage for carriers applying for jobs as airline pilots or bus drivers but would be an absolute boon for those looking for work as banking executives. There would of course be risks involved for the people named, but is that not what these people would find exciting? Wouldn’t it be the same as publicly identifying people who like to be publicly identified? I probably should have researched risk taking using any of the 34 items we hold here at Ipswich on the subject , but I thought I’d take the risk of writing the blog without reading them, which would make me better qualified to discuss risk taking. All blogs need credibility. On Tuesday at 12:20 in eZone1 the final Music trivia session will be held and someone will win the Woodstock Stratocaster, all are welcome. Marcos
