Week 10 Semester 2

Blogs > Ipswich Library Blog

Hi All, Did you know that during this this week in 1513 The Pacific ocean was discovered by Vasco Nunez de Balboa? I remember being surprised by this fact at school. The Pacific Ocean has been in position probably since the cretaceous and certainly since the tertiary period. So, this ocean which covers 35 percent of the globe had no one notice it for the best part of 100 million years? Seems unlikely doesn't it? I believe this fact may solve an ancient mystery. If Balboa was the first to see the Pacific, but not until 1513, perhaps there was something else there before 1513? Perhaps.... Atlantis? There have been a great many books written on the Atlantis mystery, but none published before 1513. I know Plato wrote about a place which was assumed to be Atlantis in the 4th century BC but for reasons which I haven't time to go into here, I think we can discount these and all works stemming from these. So using the principle of "Ockham's Razor" and the facts: The pacific ocean discovered 1513, Atlantis hasn't been seen since then, Atlantis disappeared under the water. It is clear that Atlantis was where the Pacific Ocean is now. Next Week I will use the same principles to explain The Loch Ness Monster and where Qld's 8 cent per litre petrol rebate goes. At UQ library we have 40 items dealing with the philosophies of William of Ockham and a great many more dealing with Qld's fuel rebate. Marcos
