The sight of Gilligan and Mr Howell storming the Bastille could have become one of televisions enduring moments. In 1926 John Baird, a Scottish inventor, demonstrated a pictorial transmission machine called television. Obviously he anticipated that the writers of Gilligan’s island would have used his technology to adapt the Napoleon scenario, they say the fact that they didn’t scarred him for life. Apparently he only cheered up when TV Week started an awards ceremony in his name.
