Public Access for NIH funded research
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has a new Public Access policy that requires published research funded by the NIH to be made freely available to researchers and the wider public. This breakthrough will ensure the NIH annual research investment of US$29 billion resulting in approximately 80,000 NIH yearly published articles will be shared with research communities throughout the world. The published articles are to be deposited in and made available from PubMed Central (http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/). This comes into effect from the 7th of April 2008. The deposited research article will be made available within 12 months of publication.
