General practice activity in Australia 2009-10
The General practice activity in Australia 2009-10 report was published in 2010.
This report presents results from the twelfth year of BEACH program, a national study of general practice activity. BEACH is Bettering the Evaluation And Care of Health.
Dr Steve Hambleton states the AIHW report highlights that the chronic health problems most often managed by GPs are hypertension, depressive disorder, diabetes, cholesterol-related disorders, chronic arthritis, oesophageal disease, and asthma.
The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) Report, General
Practice Activity in Australia 2009-10, confirms that GPs are increasingly
treating older patients with more complex care needs. The management of chronic
and complex disease is a key part of general practice, with chronic conditions
making up 35% of all problems managed.

Mobile units in Holland will practice euthanasia
The Hague-based pro-euthanasia group NVVE, is coordinating the service. The
teams, comprising at least a doctor and a nurse, will euthanise patients by
administering a strong sedative to put them in a coma followed by a drug to
stop breathing.
NVVE said in a statement the service would involve six teams targeting
"borderline cases in which family GPs are reluctant to administer
euthanasia".

Psychological First Aid: Guide for Field Workers
"PFA is an alternative to "psychological
debriefing" which has been found to be ineffective. In contrast, PFA involves
factors that seem to be most helpful to people's long-term recovery..... These
include:
- feeling safe, connected to others, calm and hopeful;
- having access to social, physical and emotional support; and
- feeling able to help themselves, as individuals and communities."
