Staying up-to-date with Google Reader
RSS feeds are an easy way to keep up-to-date with content from blogs, news feeds, journal alerts or podcasts. Many publishers are using RSS feeds to provide an alerting service to advise on new information as it becomes available. This means you don't have to go to the specific website or database each time to find out the latest information.
Google Reader is a popular Web-based aggregator used for reading RSS feeds. If you already have a Google account, you can use the same log-in. Look at the YouTube video called Google Reader in Plain English for a quick overview.
There are different kinds of RSS readers to fill your particular needs. Some are web-based, while others you download to your desktop. The Library provides additional details regarding RSS readers and RSS feeds on the Alerting Services: RSS Feeds & Email Guide.
Look out for the RSS sign on the databases, journals and websites you visit.
