The Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) initiative assesses research quality within Australia's higher education institutions using a range of indicators and other proxies to support the evaluation of research excellence. This will give government, industry, business and the wider community assurance of the excellence of research conducted. It will also provide a national stocktake, by research discipline areas, of research strength against international benchmarks.

One of the indicators used to evaluate Australian research is discipline-specific tiered outlet rankings. The full ERA 2010 Ranked Journal List is now available.
