Develop your Research Skills
Are you new to the University? Perhaps you're returning to study
after some time away from the lecture room. One of the elements
that will assist the quality of your academic work is effective
research skills.
The Library conducts training to assist students develop their
research skills. The following program commences this week.
Module 1: Friday 31st July - 10am - 1pm
The first part of this module discusses UQ resources, borrowing conditions, document delivery and accessing your library record. The second part introduces EndNote Bibliographic Software and steps through the set up a new reference library, manual insertion of references, and using EndNote with Word 2007 to insert citations and create a bibliography.
Module 2: Friday 7 August - 10am - 1pm
In Searching for Papers 1 learn how to select and search appropriate databases. In EndNote this week find out how to set up groups, export references from databases, and use filters import references from databases.
Module 2: Friday 14 August - 10am - 1pm
In Searching for Papers 2 discover Web of Science, cited reference searching, Google Scholar, and alerting services. The final EndNote component looks at using connection files to import references.
