The 3rd edition of the MLA Style Manual of the Modern Language Association of America was published in 2008. It will come into force in 2009.

The third edition introduces some significant changes. All references should now include an indication of the medium (e.g. Print, Web, Videocassette, DVD). Web addresses (URLs) are no longer required for online references. Periodical references should include both a volume number and an issue number (if available).

An EndNote output style for MLA 3rd edition is now available for download from our EndNote Styles Page. It should be used in conjunction with the explanatory notes.
