Digital Object Identifiers (DOI)

Some journal editors are now requiring that authors include the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) in their references.

We have amended our Pubmed filter and connection file so that you can import the DOI into EndNote (version 8 and upwards).

Another use of the DOI is to create links to the full text of journal articles. But if you modify the DOI to create such a link, you no longer have the DOI in your EndNote library if you want to include it in your references.

Search UI frustrating

The search UI is doesn't provide any obvious clue as to where one can go to initiate a search with a DOI. Unfortunately the default search string isn't provided with enough intelligence to recognise when the user puts a valid DOI into that field. The search drop down menu seems to be organised by type of information rather than search strategy or approach.

I'm sure somewhere buried in this mess is an opportunity to just point in a DOI but it would be nice if this was the obvious from the first screen one encountered.
