I visited St. Lucia about 4 years ago and was completely awed by one of its trees. It was an umbrella shaped brilliant red tree that spotted the mountains and along the roads. I've been searching for the name of the tree and if it is possible for it to grow and thrive in SW Florida. Can you help me locate this tree, its name, and properties? I would be very grateful. Thank you, Dottie Farley
Brachychiton acerifolius
Hi Dottie, not sure whether you will even get this reply so long after, but the trees are Brachychiton acerifolius (Illawarra Flame Trees) natives to rainforest and wet forest patches along the east coast.
Cheers!
