World Oral Health Day - September 12
12th September has been declared as World Oral Health day by the
FDI (World Dental Federation) in order to support the improvement
of oral health worldwide.
As World Oral Health Day will be celebrated for the first time this
year in 2008, the FDI has decided to use the occasion to raise
general awareness about oral health and World Oral Health
Day.
Why 12 September?
1. It is the most common month for existing Oral Health Days around
the world. 2. The birthday of Dr Charles Godon, founder of the FDI,
falls on 12 September 1854. 3. The day is the anniversary of the
groundbreaking World Health Organization's International Conference
on Primary Health Care at Alma Ata, which took place on 12
September 1978.
