School libraries with music collections

Blogs > UQ Library Cyberschool

Recently Sarah Evans, the UQ Library liaison librarian for Music, met with Cassandra Podbury, Music Librarian at Christ Church Grammar School in Claremont, Western Australia. Cassandra would like to make contact with people in schools with music collections to share ideas. Cassandra’s collection include scores for the school’s ensembles and the instrumental tuition programme, choral vocal scores & collections, class sets of scores, donated items, as well as cds and dvds all amounting to a sizable collection. She uses the separate instillation in Oliver for music.

From Cassandra: Music Collections Does your school have a music department with a large resource collection? Are scores and recordings kept in the school library or the music department? Who takes care of them? Organising music collections in schools is often placed in the ‘too-hard’ basket due to the specialist knowledge it requires. I hope to create an informal contact list for those who manage music collections in schools. Exchange ideas, experiences and advice and discover how many great music collections there are out there. If you are interested (or know someone in your music department who might be!) please contact UQL Cyberschool and we will put you in touch with Cassandra.

Hello Cassandra, I am about to engage in conversation with the music teachers about management/storage/copyright of the music/scores collection. Would love to hear from you, Thanks Cathy

Hi. We have a music collection which houses music for all the instrumental music teachers in the Bundaberg District. It would be good to network with other people managing such collections.
