  • Energy is a major contributor to UQ's carbon emissions. The use of energy on campus is a significant challenge to all UQ staff, students and visitors. With more than 700 building and 18,000 computers adn a population of more than 40,000 students and staff, UQ used the equivalent energy of more than 10,000 homes

  • Leaving just one computer and monitor on for a year produces the same amount of green-house gas as a car makes when it travels over 3,000 kms

  • Every kilo of newspaper recycled prevents a kilo of carbon dioxide being released. Recylcing one ton of paper saves 23,000 litres of water. All types of paper can go into the recylcing bin

  • Recycling just one aluminium can saves enough energy to power a television for 3 hours

  • Dentistry Library received the award for the Best Green Office Initiative with a comprehensive education and behavioural change campaign to increase recycling.
