Referencing Styles
By now you have probably all realised that it is essential that
you accurately reference any information you have used in your
essays and research.
Why is it important to cite and reference correctly?
- It supports the ideas you are presenting - It is acknowledgment
or credit for the supporting facts and ideas you have used - It
helps others track down the sources you have used - It helps you
avoid plagiarism
Which referencing style should I use?
Unfortunately there is no standard style used at UQ. In some cases
there is a standard style used by a particular school or
discipline, but even in those cases it is still possible that a
particular lecturer may require a different style. Students should
check their course
profile or ask their lecturer.
