Library Tours - Week 1

Missed the O-Week Library Tours - don’t worry, you can still come on a tour of the Social Sciences and Humanities Library.

Saturday 27 February: 11 am

Monday 1 March to Friday 5 March: 11 am 12 noon 1 pm 2 pm

Learn how to locate services, discover information and find your way around the Social Sciences and Humanities Library.

Tours take 30-45 minutes.

Meet in the foyer, Level 1, Library Duhig Building (Bldg 2).

Library Training Classes

Since the UQ Library has such as large collection of print and electronic resources it can sometimes be a bit of a challenge to find the info that you need for your assignments. To help you learn how to more efficiently find info in the library there are a range of training classes offered:

Getting Started in the UQ Library - Learn about the UQ Library.

In this class you will learn:

* How to navigate the Library home page * How to identify Course Materials * How to identify Subject guides and “How-to” guides * How to search the Library Catalogue * How to identify journal articles * How to view a loan record and renew a load

Finding Journal Articles for Assignments - In this class you will find out how to conduct further research to support your assignments.

In this class you will learn:

* What is a database * Why you should use databases * Which one should you use * How to find a database * Which guides will help * How to search effectively * How to retrieve the information you have found

Effective Internet Searching - This class will show you that Internet searching is more than Google.

In this class you will learn:

* What is the World Wide Web * When it is best to use a subject directory * When it is best to use a search engine * Which search tools and strategies should you use * Which are the best research sites and how to find them * How to access these resources through the UQ Library website * How to retrieve the information you have found

Each of these classes run for an hour, there is no need to book (just turn up) and the full schedule is available from the Library Training Calendar.
