A Brief Introduction to UQ Library
Hi everyone,
As more students are beginning to enrol in their first year BA
courses, I thought I should quickly summarize the services offered
by UQ Library.
All students studying first year BA courses can use most of the 14
branches of The University of Queensland Library. Material and
services most relevant to first year Arts courses are found in the
Social Sciences and
Humanities Library, Architecture and Music
Library, Biological
Sciences Library, Dorothy Hill Physical Sciences
and Engineering Library, Law Library, Ipswich Library and the
Fryer
Library.
You will find a wealth of information in your chosen field: browse
thousands of books, journals, videos, newspapers and maps in the
collection and access leading online resources including electronic
journals and databases through the UQ Library website. Course
resources and past exam papers are also available. Specialist
Liaison
Librarians can help you – whether you need information for an
assignment or just want to make the most of UQ’s excellent
Library.
The Library provides flexible learning spaces so you can study
alone in quiet carrels, work in large groups in seminar teaching
rooms, or work in small groups focused around comfortable seating
and easily accessible technology such as personal computers,
laptops, large screen projector equipment and the UQ Wireless
Network.
The Ask I.T. service provides
free computing help and training for students.
Library opening hours vary between branches and in and out of
teaching semesters. Details can be found on the website.
This is just a very brief summary of the huge range of resources
and services available. The best way to discover these resources is
to drop into one or more of the UQ Library branches and have a chat
to the librarian staffing the information desk.
Michael.
