Hi Everyone,

Welcome to first year and welcome to the University of Queensland Library. My name is Michael Whiteway and I am a liaison librarian in the Social Sciences and Humanities Library. Your first year at university can be pretty daunting and my colleagues and I are here to assist with your information discovery and use of the library.

The University of Queensland Library is the best place on campus for you to discover more about your subjects. In the library there are:

• Over 2.5 million books • 9,501 print journals and 52,828 electronic journals • 974 networked databases to guide you to journal content • Multiple copies of textbooks held, including copies in High Use Collections for quick access • 417,192 electronic books • 37,746 DVDs/videos • Comprehensive quick reference collection • Extensive manuscript, microform and pictorial collections

This makes the University of Queensland Library one of the largest university libraries in Australia so in O-Week the library will run tours and from the start of semester there are classes to help you use the library catalogue and databases and find the readings and information you’ll need for your courses. I’ll keep you posted with the details.

All the best,

Michael.
