1. Purpose of the collection
The Biological Sciences Library's anatomical science collection is intended to support the teaching and research activities of the Department of Anatomical Sciences and its specialised Centre for Research in Vascular Biology.
2. Primary user groups served
The Department delivers undergraduate programs to students in:

In particular the department is involved in problem-based learning for students enrolled in the Graduate Medical Course (GMC).

3. Description of the collection
Most resources to support the Department of Anatomical Sciences are held at the Biological Sciences Library but the collection is also supported by journal and monograph holdings at the Herston Health Sciences Library, the Princess Alexandra Hospital Library, the UQ/Mater McAuley Hospital Library and the Dentistry Library. Some of the particularly strong areas at the Biological Sciences Library are anatomical atlases, comparative anatomy, comparative histology, cardiovascular system anatomy and physiology, dissection, embryology, eye anatomy and histology, muscles, neurobiology and veterinary anatomy.

The Library is also involved in the ongoing collection of a wide range of electronic resources relevant to the needs of the School and produces resource guides to link library users with this information.
4. Interdisciplinary relationships
The Department of Anatomical Sciences shares common areas of interest with other departments within the Faculty (i.e. Physiology and Pharmacology, Zoology and Entomology, Microbiology and Parasitology, Chemistry and Biochemistry) as well as with other departments and centres within the Faculty of Health Sciences and Faculty of Natural Resources, Agriculture and Veterinary Science.
Relevant resources for the Department of Anatomical Sciences are held at the Biological Sciences Library and these are supplemented by material held at the Health Sciences libraries.
