Printing instructions

Printing is linked to the logged-in student or guest account. This means that when you touch your student ID or print/copy card at the printer you will only see jobs related to your account.

So, for example, if you were doing group work - the person logged-in to the Library workstation would have to use their student card and print credit to collect the job. It is possible to transfer credit to other students.

Step 1: print from your workstation

Ensure you have enough print credit for your print job and understand how much your job will cost.

  • Open the file and choose the Print command.
    You can also use the shortcut CTRL + P (Windows only)

Print from your chosen application. You do not need to change the printer.

On the print screen:

  • Choose the number of copies
  • Optionally: Press Printer Properties to adjust the print settings
  • Click Print to send the job to the printer

You may be asked to confirm your student details:

  • enter your student number (e.g. s1234567) and password
  • select how long you'd like to keep the account open
    Note: your account will be closed automatically on logout.

Authenticate with your Student ID and password as required.

Windows message: retrieve your job from the printer.

  • Open the file and choose the Print command.
    You can also use the shortcut CMD + P (MAC only)
  • Optionally: adjust the MAC print settings
  • Click Print to send the job to the printer

Print Settings

Printing is double-sided and in black and white by default.

  • Printer settings can all be adjusted via My Tab
  • Make any changes as described below and press OK to finish

Use My Tab to change print options like: colour, double sided, multiple pages per sheet etc.

Duplex

Printing is double-sided by default. You can also print in single-sided or booklet format.

  • 1-sided prints on one side of a piece of paper only.
  • Booklet prints in smaller format on both sides of the piece of paper such that it can be folded in the middle as a booklet.

So if you're printing to A4:

  • the paper would be made landscape and the printer would do 2 x A5 pages of print per A4 paper.
  • Your document should be ordered as you would read and leaf through the booklet - do not rearrange the pages.

Colour printing

Printing is black and white by default.Use Select Color to choose whether your document will be in colour or in black and white.

  • Auto Color detects the colours required on a page and will print any non-black and white page in colour.
  • Gray Scale prints the document in black, grey and white.
  • 2 Color prints in colour.

Multiple printed pages per sheet of paper

Documents are one printed page per side of paper by default.Use the Combination setting to print multiple document pages to one sheet of paper.

  • Check Combination and then select a page combination setting to print multiple pages onto one sheet of paper at a smaller size. (The combination image will preview how the page orientation and print size).
  • Please note - Combination printing does not reduce the cost of your document.

Page Size

20130624_pProperty_size.pngDocuments are printed at the document size by default (this is usually A4). The printers can print upto A3. Larger sizes can be printed at Unicard.

  • Use the paper size to adjust the print size.

  • Select a quick print setting by using the Presets dropdown.
    The default is Gray Scale and Duplex (Black and white double-sided printing).

Easily adjust your printing with the Presets dropdown on the MAC print dialogue.

  • Use the Copies & Pages dropdown to adjust extra specific settings

Use the Copies & Pages dropdown to adjust non-standard settings.

Step 2: pay for, and collect, your printing

  • Go to the printer
  • Touch your Student ID or print/copy card to the card reader zone on the printer
    This will unlock your printing account

Touch your student card to the ID card scanner to open your print account.

  • Press the Print Release button on the printer menu
  • Select a print job you have queued
  • Press the round Start button below the touch screen

Step 3: delete unwanted jobs

From the Print Release area on the printer:

  • Select a print job you have queued
  • Press the Delete button on the screen
  • If necessary confirm the deletion

Step 4: Log-out of the printer

To finish your print session:

  • Press the Log out button on the right of the printer screen
  • Press Yes to confirm you wish to log off

Ensure you log-off by pressing the Log-out button Press Yes to confirm you wish to log off.
