What is Kaltura?

Kaltura is a media server that works with Learn.UQ that allows students to upload video assessment items. Students can then submit the videos in Blackboard assignments and contribute to the Course Gallery as required. Kaltura videos are private and can not be viewed by the public.

How does it work?

You log-in to Learn.UQ as normal and upload your media file(s) either into your My Media area - from the Learn.UQ Welcome page or as you are submitting an assignment for a course. The item can be reviewed and played back via Learn.UQ.

My Media

My Media is your video storage space.You can upload and view your videos, contribute to the Course Gallery if it is enabled and create webcam recordings. Your videos are available to each of your courses.

My Media

Press the My Media link on the Tools box on the Welcome page.

On the My Media page, you can:

  • Upload and view and delete any uploaded video files
  • Edit your video information: title, tags, description etc.
  • Add your video to your course gallery or create a clip from a video

Upload, view, adjust and delete uploaded video files.

Upload a video

  • Click Add Media > Upload media or record from webcam

Click Add Media in the title bar.

If the video upload screen does not appear you may need to update the Flash Player add-in for your web browser.

  • Click Browse on the Video tab
  • Locate and open your file

Click Browse on the Video tab.

  • Click Upload

Locate your file and then click upload.

Please wait while your file is uploaded. You can use the remove icon to delete any unwanted file.

  • Click Next to continue

Click Next to continue.

  • Enter the title of your assignment
  • Enter tags and description information as per your assignment instructions
  • Select Learn.UQ from the category box
  • Click Next

Name your video item, tag it with your course code and choose Learn.UQ as the category.

Your video will be processed which may take a few minutes. You can then preview the video to ensure it has uploaded correctly.

You can preview the video once it has finished processing. You can also adjust the movie meta-information.

Create a webcam video

On the My Media page:

  • Click Add Media > Upload media or record from webcam

Click the add media button.

  • Click the Webcam tab
  • Click the Allow button to activate your webcam

Click Allow to activate your webcam.

Your webcam should activate and begin showing footage.

  • Click Record to start recording

Click the Record button.

  • Click Stop to finish recording
  • Play back your recording using the Play button

Either:

  • Process the clip by clicking Next

OR

  • Record a new clip

Press Stop to finish your recording and Next to continue.

  • Enter the title of your video
  • Enter tags and a description as per any guidelines from your instructor
  • Select Learn.UQ from the category box
  • Click Next

Enter a title, tags, and description and select Learn.UQ to categorise the video.

You will returned to your My Media page where the video will be available once processing is complete. The video will now be available for use within your courses.

The video will be displayed on your My Media page once it is processed.

Contribute to the course gallery

  • Go to your My Media page and select the title of an uploaded video
  • Click Add to Course Gallery

Click Add to course gallery, for the selected movie, on your My Media page.

  • Select your course and click Ok

Select your course from the drop down menu and click OK.

  • The Clip will be added to your course gallery
  • You can remove your clip using the red X in the "Appears in" section of the movie metainformation

You can remove the clip via the link in the movie metainformation.

Create a clip from an uploaded video

  • Select an uploaded video on your My Media page
  • Click Create Clip

Click the Create Clip button.

  • Adjust the start and end points
  • Press Save when you are finished to create a new clip of the original video

The video will be processed and added to your My Media page.

Adjust the start and end points for the new clip and then press Save.
