iMACs in the UQ Library
Public Workstations in most UQ Library branches are iMACs (excluding Ipswich Library). The iMACs offer you both Windows and MAC operating systems. Work in whichever Operating System you prefer.
Choose your Operating System
From the Welcome screen, click on the MAC OS X logo, or Microsoft Windows logo to log in to the MAC Snow Leopard or Windows XP Operating System.
If the iMAC is currently running the MAC operating system and you wish to use Windows, on the login screen, click Restart and the iMAC will reboot to the Welcome screen displayed above.
For MAC OS Basics,
If the iMAC is running windows and you wish to use MAC OS X, click Switch to MAC OS X and the computer will return to the Welcome screen, so you can select MAC OS X and login.
Language Support
There is a choice of multiple input languages on the Library's public workstations:
- When you login to the Windows environment you will see a dark Blue "EN" box in the system tray in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. Click this box to select another input language.
- On the MAC Environment go to the System Preferences; click Languages and then Text to choose another input language.
In addition to well-known European languages such as Italian, French, Greek and Danish, the Standard Operating Environment also has the following choice of input languages:
- Arabic
- Farsi
- Japanese
- Sanskrit
- Chinese (PRC and Taiwanese)
- Hebrew
- Korean
- Tamil
This list has grown from a default list to a "provide on request" list (currently 18 input languages) as the International Student population at UQ grows and diversifies.
The Keyboard and Mouse
Are the Keyboard and Mouse a little different to your regular Keyboard and Mouse? No Problem! The mouse can still right click! The Windows Key is the same as the MAC Command Key.
Here are some hints:
- F14 on the MAC Keyboard is Print Screen on Windows
- F16 on the MAC Keyboard is NUM Lock on Windows
