Free Student Internet Access

To assist enrolled UQ students with their studies each student is provided with a monthly download quota allowance. In general sites hosted by the UQ domain are unmetered (not reducing the download quota) where sites external to the UQ Domain are metered (reducing the monthly download quota). On the first day of each calendar month the download quota allowance is reset back to its default value with no carry over of unused quota. How to Access the Internet

You can access the UQ network with your UQ Sign In via wireless, LAN or Dial-Up.

Connecting wirelessly to the internet requires a laptop, tablet or compatible mobile device to be connected to the EduRoam wireless network. Although not displayed by default you can navigate to the UQ Login page to check your available balance.

Dial-Up can be used to access the UQ network from a remote location i.e. your place of residence off-campus if you don't have a private ADSL, Cable or wireless service. Dial-Up usually requires a fixed phone line and a Dial-Up modem. Comparatively, Dial-Up provides a very slow connection. It is the least preferred method of connecting to study resources.

Desktop computers such as Library computers will connect via the LAN with an ethernet cable. To view metered sites hosted external to UQ will require authentication at the UQ Login page.

The UQ Login Page

To access external metered sites insert your UQ Sign In and press the Login Button.

Press the green "Continue" button to gain access to metered sites. If you click on the green arrow located in the "top right hand side" of the login window a small popup window will appear. This movable window provides access to the Help (Question Mark) icon, displaying the ITS helpdesk contact details, and opening hours.

Download Quota Balance

To find the balance of your download quota click on the blue exclamation mark tab. You will see the type of download quota and the expiry date of the download quota.

Logout of the UQ Login page

To reduce the risk of non authorised use of your download quota it is highly recommended that you log out of the UQ Login page when you finish browsing. To log out of the current internet session click the "Logout" button on the UQ Login Home page. It is also possible to log out by visiting the website "logout.uq.edu.au".
