The Multimedia Service is part of the Social Sciences and Humanities Library, one of the 13 branch libraries of the University of Queensland. Multimedia offers bookings and offair requesting/recording services to support the teaching, learning and research needs of staff and students across the University.

Staff

- As of the 2/01/2009, all UQ Academics and general staff may borrow DVDs, VHS tapes and other items from the SSH Multimedia collection for up to 7 days.
- Course reserved - Kept at desk - DVDs, VHS tapes, etc. items from the SSH Multimedia collection are 2 hour loans, but may be borrowed for lectures/tutorials.
- For extensions on length of Course reserved - Kept at Desk borrowing please contact your Liaison Librarian.
- Standard loan periods apply to DVDs, VHS tapes and other mulitmedia items available in the general collection.
- Some 18+, R classified and other important multimedia items are also Kept at desk and are available for 7 day loans.
- Staff can also arrange to borrow intercampus and interlibrary video items through bookings
Students

- As of the 2/01/2009, all UQ students may borrow DVDs, VHS tapes and other items from the SSH Multimedia collection for up to 7 days.
- Course reserved - Kept at desk - DVDs, VHS tapes and other items from the SSH Multimedia collection will be 2 hour loans and are available to be viewed in the library only. See bookings for exceptions.
- Standard loan periods apply to DVDs, VHS tapes and other mulitmedia items available in the general collection.
- Students may not request video items from other campuses or institutions
- Postgraduates may apply for extended borrowing for teaching purposes
Reciprocal and Other customers
- Offair recordings are unavailable as due to copyright restrictions they may only be viewed by UQ staff and students
Film and Video Bookings handles the booking of multimedia material for teaching and research purposes.
Items can be booked for:
- Screening via the Central Video Replay System (delivered to CVRS)
- Tutorial presentations (4 Hour Loan)
- Intercampus loan requests of video/DVD recordings (teaching purposes only)
Bookings can be requested within the Social Sciences and Humanities Library at the High Use desk.
There are two types of forms:
- Blue CVRS Request forms for library material to be shown through the Central Video Replay System
- Yellow Request forms for library material that will be picked up personally by the borrower
48 hours notice of request is recommended to allow prompt processing and delivery of items.
Staff
- Videos can be requested by telephone on 334 63680, email: avsbook@library.uq.edu.au or by filling out a request form at the High Use desk in the Social Sciences and Humanities library.
- Please note that items booked for CVRS also need to be booked with CVRS. One email sent to both avsbook@library.uq.edu.au;av@its.uq.edu.au is the most effective method.
Students
- Videos can be booked for up to four hours for use in tutorial presentations.
To book videos for tutorials please fill out the yellow request form at the High Use desk. 48 hours notice of request is recommended to allow prompt processing and delivery of items
- Videos can also be booked for viewing by groups of three or more people in one of the Group Viewing Rooms in the High Use area. Please book the room at the High Use desk when you are filling in the form
Offairs provides Academic staff the ability to request programs that are broadcast on free to air and subscription television. The channels recorded are ABC, Channel 7, Channel 9, Channel 10, and SBS. In addition programs from Foxtel, Briz31 can be recorded on a request basis.
- All programs requested are converted into DVD format and catalogued for the appropriate library collection
- Please note that in accordance with the Copyright Act all programs are deleted after 14 days if not requested to be kept
- Material recorded offair is available only to University of Queensland staff and students for the purpose of teaching, research and study at the University
- A weekly list highlighting programs recorded can be requested from your liaison librarian

Problems watching streamed videos

To be able to watch our streamed content you will need the following - a broadband network connection, Windows Media Player 9 or above and Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or above. If you still have trouble it may be a speed or network problem. All our streamed content can be viewed from the computers in any branch library.
