Collection Development News June 2012
Link to April 2013 Collection Development News
Introduction
UQ Library welcomes new title suggestions, and recommendations for subject expansion. Please contact your librarian, or send your thoughts via the Library feedback form.
Requests are assessed by librarians with subject expertise. Some are referred to UQ Library's Collections Management Group. The latter meets ten times each year. Collection development policy is determined by the Library's Collection Priorities Directorate.
UQ Library's collection development policy is available for consultation.
The Library's What's New To UQ Library Collections page lists all titles new to the Library in the previous month, arranged by Library of Congress classification groups.
Collection Development News (your current location) lists successful requests referred to the Library's Collections Management Group since 2011, grouped under seven general areas. Changes to the collection are also noted.
Cross-disciplinary titles appear together, ahead of six subject groups. Project and other collections news follows at the end of the page.
Resources listed under "New Subscriptions" are leased and must be renewed (generally annually) if still relevant to UQ needs. "Purchases" are resources owned by UQ Library in perpetuity.
Titles are available now. More will be added as they become live.
To the best of our knowledge, titles are available online, unless otherwise noted, e.g. (print).
Please do not hesitate to alert the Library to access issues.

Projects and other collections news
Patron Driven Acquisitions (PDA): Library patrons are helping to select ebooks without realising! UQ Library is running a three year PDA trial with two aggregators: ebrary and EBL. Titles fitting predefined profiles have been added to the Library's catalogue, and when selected by patrons, open immediately for reading. The Library is then billed. Uptake has been outstanding, with titles being purchased in academic areas not previously targeted for expansion.
Subject Assessments by FoR Code: Branch and subject collection development policies have been re-written around ERA (Excellence in Research for Australia) FoR (Field of Research) codes. We invite you to take a look.
Two Year Subscription Review: Librarians are reviewing all print and online subscriptions, checking their relevance to current UQ research and teaching needs. The project runs on a two year cycle. Your librarian may contact you to fine tune your area's requirements.
e-Textbook FAQs: The Library has complied a list of frequently asked questions around the rapidly emerging e-textbook landscape.
UQ Library welcomes your feedback. Please contact your librarian, or send us your thoughts via the Library feedback form.
