Preamble
The University of Queensland (UQ) Library is committed to supporting the University's research, and teaching and learning agenda. UQ librarians maintain subject assessments based on the Commonwealth Government Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) initiative's Field of Research codes. The assessments reflect current trends at UQ, and respond to changes in direction through regular updating.
Purpose of the collection
UQ Library's collection in this area supports the teaching and research activities of staff and students in the School of History, Philosophy, Religion and Classics and the Centre for the History of European Discourses. The School and Centre are part of the Faculty of Arts.

The Library's collection may be searched via the Web.
The Library holds print and electronic book titles in the area. Experienced librarians develop the collection, and welcome input from academic staff.The following specialist book collections are available:

Scope of current collecting
1. Languages collected or excluded
Preference is given to material in English, but we also collect a significant amount of material in German (mainly on German history and classical history), French (mainly on French history and classical history), Dutch (on Indonesian history), and Spanish (on Spanish and Latin American history).
2. Geographical areas collected or excluded
There is little research or teaching activity on African history.
3. Chronological periods collected or excluded
There is little research or teaching activity on pre-classical ancient history.
4. Types (formats) of material collected
Primary texts and secondary literature are collected in both print and electronic format.
5. Publication dates
Current collecting focuses on material published in the last five years, but earlier material will be acquired to fill gaps in the collections as required.
6. Special considerations
Primary source material is a priority for acquisition, preferably in electronic format.
