Preamble
The University of Queensland (UQ) Library is committed to supporting the University's research, and teaching and learning agenda. UQ librarians maintain subject assessments based on the Commonwealth Government Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) initiative's Field of Research codes. The assessments reflect current trends at UQ, and respond to changes in direction through regular updating.
Purpose of the collection
UQ Library's collection in this area supports the teaching and research activities of staff and students in the T.C. Beirne School of Law, The Australian Centre for Private Law, The Centre for Public International and Comparative Law and the Marine and Shipping Law Unit. All Schools and Centres are part of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law.

Primarily English language material is collected.
2. Geographical areas collected or excluded
No geographical areas are excluded. Priority is given to common law countries: Australia; Great Britain; Canada; New Zealand; United States; other common law countries including Papua New Guinea, Fiji, India, Malaysia and Hong Kong. Material relating to non-common law jurisdictions includes selected European and Asian countries.
3. Chronological periods collected or excluded
No chronological period is specifically excluded.
4. Types (formats) of material collected
Material is collected in all forms both print and electronic. The collection includes Law Reports and Statutes from a number of jurisdictions.
5. Publication dates
Latest 2 years' material is collected. Older material is purchased when academic staff make specific requests.
6. Special considerations
The collection also includes areas that cross jurisdictional boundaries such as Jurisprudence; International and Comparative Law; European Union Law; Human Rights Law; Islamic Law; Asian Legal Systems, Maritime Law and Indigenous Law (includes a collection of Canadian material in addition to Australian).
