Preamble
The University of Queensland (UQ) Library is committed to supporting the University's research, and teaching and learning agenda. UQ librarians maintain subject assessments based on the Commonwealth Government Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) initiative's Field of Research codes. The assessments reflect current trends at UQ, and respond to changes in direction through regular updating.
Purpose of the collection
UQ Library's collection in this area supports the teaching and research activities of staff and students in the School of Social Science, the UQ Anthropology Museum, the UQ Culture and Heritage Unit and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Unit. The School and Centres are part of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.

The Library holds print and electronic book titles in the area. Experienced librarians develop the collection, and welcome input from academic staff. Relevant print collections are grouped under these classification numbers: GF-GN, CC,DU .The following specialist book collections are available:

1. Languages collected or excluded
Primarily English language material is collected, but other languages not excluded.
2. Geographical areas collected or excluded
No geographical areas excluded, however priority is given to the local and Australasia/Pacific area.
3. Chronological periods collected or excluded
No chronological periods are specifically excluded. Primary and secondary materials prior to the modern period are collected to support anthropological studies.
4. Types (formats) of material collected
Primary texts and secondary literature are collected in print, multimedia and electronic formats.
5. Publication dates
The emphasis is on collecting recent publications (last 5 years), however older materials will be purchased to support teaching and research.
6. Special considerations
A priority for acquisition (both primary and secondary) in the area relating to Australian Indigenous resources and other First Nations peoples such as NZ & Canada.
