Preamble

The University of Queensland (UQ) Library is committed to supporting the University's research, and teaching and learning agenda. UQ librarians maintain subject assessments based on the Commonwealth Government Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) initiative's Field of Research codes. The assessments reflect current trends at UQ, and respond to changes in direction through regular updating.

Purpose of the collection

UQ Library's collection in this area primarily supports the teaching and research activities of staff and students in the Schools of Education, Human Movement Studies, and Music, and their associated research centres. These Schools and Centres are part of the Faculties of Social and Behavioural Sciences, and the Faculty of Arts. In addition, works on curriculum and pedagogy at tertiary level across all fields are supported by this collection; for example, medical education.

The Library's collection may be searched via the Web.

The Library holds print and electronic book titles in this area. Experienced librarians develop the collection, and welcome input from academic staff. Relevant print collections are grouped under a wide range of classification numbers, located with the subject; for example, mathematics curriculum and pedagogy at QA, history curriculum and pedagogy at D16, medical education at R. Primarily English language material is collected.

Australian material is collected. In particular, works on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education are collected. No geographical area is excluded.

No chronological periods are specifically excluded.

4. Types (formats) of material collected

Material is collected in print, electronic and multimedia formats.

5. Publication dates

The emphasis is on collecting recent publications (last 5 years), however older materials will be purchased to support teaching and research.

6. Special considerations

The Curriculum Collection in the SSAH Library supports preservice teacher education in the School of Education, from primary through high school levels. Its focus is on high-quality publications suitable for current use in Australian (particularly Queensland) schools, in a range of formats, and children's and young adult literature.
