UQ ERA rating in 2010: 4

Preamble

The University of Queensland (UQ) Library is committed to supporting the University's research, and teaching and learning agenda. UQ librarians maintain subject assessments based on the Commonwealth Government Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) initiative's Field of Research codes. The assessments reflect current trends at UQ, and respond to changes in direction through regular updating.

Purpose of the collection

UQ Library's collection in this area supports the teaching and research activities of staff and students in the School of Mathematics and Physics; also the Centre for Mathematics and Statistics of Complex Systems, Centre for Statistics, Centre for Discrete Mathematics and Computing, Centre for Applications in Natural Resource Mathematics (CARM), and Centre for Mathematical Physics. All Schools and Centres are part of the Faculty of Science.

Description of the collection

The Library's collection may be searched via the Web.

The Library holds print and electronic book titles in this area. Experienced librarians develop the collection, and welcome input from academic staff. Relevant print collections are grouped under the classification number QA. The following specialist book collections are available:

  • Springer Ebook collection
  • Lecture notes in mathematics (Springer)

The Library subscribes to journals in the area. Many are available in electronic format. UQ Library holds 80.78% of the ERA-listed general (two-digit) Mathematical Sciences journals. A majority of the most highly regarded titles in the ERA four-digit categories are also held. Many 01 Mathematical sciences titles overlap with 02 Physical Sciences journals.

Key titles accessible at UQ are:

  • American journal of mathematics
  • Bulletin of the American Mathematical Society
  • Chaos
  • Decision support systems
  • Geometry and topology
  • Journal of mathematical biology
  • Operations research
  • Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Mathematical, physical and engineering sciences
  • SIAM journal on numerical analysis

Other titles:

  • Applied physics letters
  • International journal for numerical methods in engineering
  • Journal of computational physics
  • Journal of the mechanics and physics of solids
  • Journal of theoretical biology
